Carolina School of horseshoeing, LLC offers a 4 week shoeing course and a 2 week trimming course. In this course you will be taught the basic skills needed for trimming and shoeing a horse. 

Starting the very first day of class you will be trimming live horses! That's right we start you the very first day under a horse!

Carolina School of Horseshoeing, LLC has a large volume of good horses to work on. We do cover areas of problem horses but most are good calm horses so you can learn the most while you are here! 

Here is what to expect for your 4 week course. 

2 week
courses will just trim for the 2 weeks.  


Week one:
 Start the very 1st day trimming horses! You will be given a detailed diagram of the hoof. You will also be given a detailed diagram of the upper and lower limbs of the horse. You will be taught to trim the horse to its natural conformation. We will discuss the importance of cornary band. 

Week two:  In week two we start shoeing horses! You will be taught to make a preshape front and a preshape hind pattern shoes. You will be shown how to level and apply the shoe correctly. A variety of shoes will be discussed along with their use. Trimming and shoeing horses will continue through week two. 

Week three: Continuing with what we are learning in weeks one and two along with getting more detailed about our shoeing. Learn about mixed matched feet. How to correct them.  You will be taught how to apply pads and what their use are. We will cover areas of hoof related problems such as founder, navicular, quarter cracks, white line disease, surface cracks, under run heels, contracted heels, hi-low hooves, and thrush.

Week four: Week four we really tighten down on your trimming and shoeing. We do not push quanity but quality in your work. We want you to learn how to do this right and make your work look great. We will show you how to give a show finish shoe job. 

You will also do forge work in week four. You will be taught to modify the keg shoe.
Here you will learn how to square toes, pull side clips, make trailers, roll toes, extended heels, and heel caulks. You will also learn to build a handmade horse shoe and apply them to the horses you'll shoe.


Corrective trimming and shoeing will be taught daily as we come across it everyday! 

 A Certificate will be given to the students that complete the four week course at Carolina School of Horseshoeing, LLC.
